Saleor alternatives

Saleor alternatives: the commerce API without the $1,599 plan.

Saleor Cloud’s first paid plan, Select, is $1,599 a month for up to $200,000 of monthly GMV, and payments and automatic tax are apps you connect: Stripe through Saleor’s Stripe app, and tax through a tax app such as AvaTax. Flint Pay is the alternative for US businesses, with no monthly fee: Stripe processing, orders, and inventory held at payment come with the account at 3.79% + 35¢ per card payment, and automatic US sales tax (0.50% on taxed payments) and subscriptions (0.40%) are add-ons. At $50 orders, Flint costs less than Select plus Stripe’s fees up to about $161,500 a month in sales, or about $107,000 with automatic tax on every order.

03Before the first sale

What do you connect to Saleor before you can sell?

A processor, a tax engine, and, if you sell subscriptions, your own renewal logic. Each one is an app or backend code with its own setup and its own bill.

Payments run through Saleor’s Stripe app, which needs Saleor 3.23 and your own Stripe account. A configuration can’t be edited once created; to change one you create a new configuration and delete the old one. Stripe bills its processing fees to you directly.

Tax is either flat rates you maintain by hand or a tax app that calls an outside provider such as AvaTax, with that provider’s own account and pricing. Saleor closed its Stripe Tax app request as not planned.

On Flint, processing and automatic US sales tax are part of the account, and subscriptions are an API resource with renewals that create orders.

Is Flint cheaper than Saleor Cloud?

Up to about $161,500 a month in sales at $50 orders, yes. Saleor's Select plan is $1,599 a month before Stripe's fees; Flint has no plan, and its rate includes Stripe's processing. With Flint's automatic tax on every order, Flint costs less up to about $107,000 a month.

Assumptions

  • Every order is $50, paid with a US card.
  • Saleor Cloud Select at its published $1,599 a month, which covers up to $200,000 of monthly GMV, so no 0.8% overage applies in these examples. Saleor's pricing page shows the price per month and doesn't state the billing term.
  • Stripe's standard US rate of 2.9% + 30¢ for domestic cards, from Stripe's pricing page, through Saleor's Stripe app.
  • Tax engines are left out on the Saleor side: a tax app such as AvaTax is priced by its provider. The last Flint row adds automatic tax to every order.
  • At $50 orders, Flint costs less than Select plus Stripe up to about $161,500 a month in sales, or about $107,000 with automatic tax on every order. Above that, Select plus Stripe costs less in these fees.

06Who Flint is for

Flint is built for US businesses selling on their own site or app.

If that describes you, the payments, tax, and subscriptions above are running the day you create your account.

US businesses

Flint onboards businesses in the US, sells in USD, and pays out to your own bank account. Buyers can pay from anywhere with a card.

Your own front end

Any storefront reads the catalog and creates orders through your backend. Hosted checkout, payment links, and a buyer account are included.

Goods, services, and subscriptions

Orders that ship, get picked up, deliver locally, or fulfill as a download or a service, and subscriptions that renew as orders.

Developers and agents

A public OpenAPI spec, Node and PHP SDKs, a CLI, llms.txt, and MCP servers a coding agent can read.

07Switching

How do you move from Saleor to Flint?

Your storefront keeps its design. The calls it makes to Saleor's API move to your backend and Flint, and the payment and tax apps go away.

  1. Recreate the catalog

    POST /v1/products

Create each Saleor product on Flint with its options and variants, SKUs, and prices.

  2. Load stock by location

    POST /v1/inventory-items

Create an inventory item for each tracked variant and set its stock at each warehouse or store you ship or pick up from.

  3. Point checkout at Flint

    POST /v1/checkout-sessions

Have your backend create an order from the cart, then send the buyer to a hosted checkout or confirm the payment from your own page with Stripe Elements. Connect automatic tax in the Dashboard.

  4. Move subscribers without a second charge

    billing_start

If you bill subscriptions, each subscriber saves a card on Flint once; then create the subscription with an imported billing start so Flint charges nothing until the next renewal.

  5. Fulfill from order.paid

    order.paid

Run fulfillment from the order.paid webhook, test every flow in a sandbox with Stripe's test cards, then switch to live keys.
